Global Teleport Network
Eik, Norway
Vizada's Eik teleport, situated on the southwest coast of Norway was established in 1976 to provide communications to the North Sea oil platforms. In 1982, Eik became the first earth station in Europe to provide the Inmarsat service. Eik covers the Atlantic Ocean Region East and West (AOR-E/AOR-W), and the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) for Inmarsat services.
The facility occupies 10 acres/40,468 Sq. M, and serves as a hub for Sealink services as well as a telemetry, tracking and control (TT&C) services hub for the Thor II and III satellites. The Eik facility operates an SS7 link with the two other teleports to provide a network for global coverage.
Nittedal, Norway
Located just north of Oslo, Norway, the Nittedal teleport began its operations in 1986. The facility provides services for VSAT networks, TV broadcasting, interactive multimedia services as well as tracking, telemetry and control (TT&C) for satellite operations.
The teleport accesses satellites with footprints covering Europe, Africa and Asia, as well as the eastern part of South America. Nittedal is directly connected by fiber to the Norwegian Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), the Norwegian International Exchange and the global Internet backbone.
